Thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s horticultural workshop it was so very lovely to work with you all and actually meet staff and students I only see in passing or from afar. A big shout out to all that made some great newspaper plant pots and well done to all of you that planted your sunflower seeds. I promise to take good care of them, my helper is certain to keep reminding me to make sure that they are fed and watered regularly. When they grow, I will return them to you so that you can look after them at home or plant out in the garden.
I had some great hands-on help from students in Elm who did some fantastic harvesting, however I’m sorry to say that was just a practice, and I will be badgering Katie to lend you all to me soon for more harvesting sessions. Thank you to Birch for some amazing weeding.
As you can obviously see the garden is flourishing, turnips and beetroot have already been harvested with broad beans ready to harvest shortly. In the greenhouse, we will be harvesting our first cucumber. We are crossing our fingers for more sunshine to help ripen the tomatoes, runner beans and the rest of their veggie friends.
This is OUR Community Garden, I hope it gives you all as much pleasure as it has myself and the rest of the gardening team. This year is a trial run, next year we are hoping to grow more varieties and even have some winter crops, please feel free to donate seeds plants etc and let me know what you would like to be growing next year.
A BIG BIG thanks to the Maintenance Team for putting up with me asking him for lots of equipment and helping us get the garden off the ground!
